Welcome to Albertslund. A borough in the west of København/Copenhagen is known as lower middle class suburbia (but is more mixed than that) as most of the socalled "Vestegn" . (meaning West region (of capital).
Albertslund is a planned suburban city built largely as low rise buildings with gardens. Kind of like a high rise split into building blocks and laid out with small gardens in enclosed courtyards.
Albertslund was named such 40 years ago. It has maybe the highest procentage rise in population from 1963-1973, where the boroughs area was almost completely built out, except the areas that could not be built on - because it belonged to the state or was protected nature. Two of the state owned grounds houses prisons:
This prison "opened" in 1859 and is due to close in 2015. Its called the state prison of Vridsløselille. It was essentially built on a field in the middel of nowhere except the small village of Vridsløselille, that still lies next to the prison. When the borough grew with the rapid suburban development of the 60s, the town changed its name to Albertslund disassociate itself from the famous closed prison. It tooks its name from the land of the Vridsløselille farm called Albertslund. Meanwhile the prison became famous for a particular starting scene in a popular movie comedy sequel called Olsen Banden:
Egon Olsen is the leader of the Olsen gang, however all his brilliant criminal schemes all go horribly wrong. The intro of the films always show him getting imprisoned and the start of the film always shows him walking out of the prison gates of Vridsløselille. Here the gang waits for him and a new crime plot can begin. The films were immensely popular depicting the hopes and despairs of the common man in a fruitless and complicated fight with the authorities
